CCTV and Data Compliance
All commercial CCTV installations in the UK must comply with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) requires organisations to have a lawful basis for operating CCTV, display appropriate signage, restrict access to footage and establish retention periods. SPS Technical designs systems with these requirements built in from the outset — not added as an afterthought.

FAQs
CCTV installation questions
A design specification, an “as fitted” specification, a CCTV handover certificate and checklist, a system logbook and an SSAIB certificate of compliance.
We set systems to keep at least 30 days of footage, and up to 45 days where a site needs it. Storage is sized at survey to match the number of cameras and image quality, and confirmed at handover.
If your cameras capture people, you are processing personal data under UK GDPR and usually need to pay the ICO data protection fee. We supply compliant signage and advise on retention and privacy at survey.
Long-standing Home Office guidance is that a person should fill at least 100% of the screen height to be identified; modern standards express this as about 250 pixels per metre. SPS designs identification views to 120%. We agree the purpose of each camera (detect, observe, recognise or identify) at survey.
