Contractor Support

Fire & Security Support for Contractors & FM Companies

Working alongside electrical contractors, M&E contractors, main contractors and FM companies to quote, design, install, commission, maintain and support commercial fire and security systems.

When a project includes fire alarms, CCTV, intruder alarms, access control or monitoring, you may need a specialist technical partner who can help with the parts of the job that sit outside your core electrical package. SPS Technical supports electrical contractors with pricing, specification reviews, system design, installation support, commissioning, compliance, takeovers and long-term maintenance handover.

"We understand that the client relationship belongs to you. SPS Technical can work transparently alongside you, support you behind the scenes, or provide a white-label style service where appropriate."

Together, we offer contractors a complete technical partner: one that can help you price and deliver a project, and one that can maintain and support that system for the client over the long term. When you introduce SPS Technical to a project, your client benefits from a partner with real depth.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

We start with a site visit and technical audit of the existing system — we check the installed equipment, condition, compliance status, service history and any known defects. We then provide a written summary of the system's current state, what's required to bring it into compliance, and a maintenance contract proposal. The takeover is structured so there are no gaps in cover during the transition.

This is common. We'll document any defects or non-compliances clearly, categorised by priority. We can provide a remedial quotation alongside the takeover proposal so the client or contractor knows exactly what's needed and when. We don't walk away from complex sites — we give a clear picture and a practical plan.

Yes. We regularly take over systems installed by other companies. We'll need access to the site and, where available, any existing service records, system drawings or panel documentation. If records don't exist, we can carry out a full audit to establish a baseline.

We use AlarmMaster to manage asset registers, service history and compliance status across multiple sites from a single platform. For FM companies and multi-site clients, we can provide consolidated reporting and a single point of contact for all maintenance activity.

This comes up regularly on refurbishment and fit-out projects. We'll review both the specification and what's present on site, highlight the discrepancies and advise on the most practical route to compliance. We can also liaise directly with a consultant where required, or provide technical notes to support a variation.

Both. Where we're supporting a contractor, we work in whatever way the contractor prefers — named subcontractor, behind-the-scenes, or a structured referral. Where a contractor introduces us for long-term maintenance, we work directly with the end client for the maintenance relationship, with the commercial route agreed upfront.

For most projects, we aim to provide a quotation within 2–5 working days of receiving the drawings or specification. If you have a deadline, tell us when you send the documents and we'll work to meet it where we can. For urgent or live-tender situations, contact us directly by phone or email.

SPS Technical holds SSAIB accreditation for intruder alarm and CCTV systems, BAFE SP203-1 for fire alarm maintenance and design, ISO 9001 for quality management, and SafeContractor and Constructionline for supply chain compliance. Full accreditation details are available on request.
